Design for Job Seekers
The Internet has changed our
lives and how ! Today we can do everything by internet - shopping,
surfing, getting information, studying, communicating and
travelling are just a few examples. People can even look out
for jobs on the internet. There are many websites which are
known as job portals which brings the job seeker and an employer
together.
On a job portal, the employer posts the vacancy in their
company and the job seeker surf through this job listings
and apply for the job directly from the job portal. The job
portal makes money by charging the employers to post their
job listings, however that is not the topic over here. The
job seekers, instead of going through countless newspaper
vacancy columns can search for their dream jobs on the job
portal and apply for it at the same instant.
Being the HR Head of a multi national company since last
8 years, I have noticed a glaring fact the resumes or CV's
of most job seekers are not attractive enough to hold my attention.
Almost, with exception, all the CV's are the same, they all
follow at the most 2 or 3 different formats. I wonder why
some of the job seekers do not think of using a personal website
to boost their chances of landing their dream job.
Yes, that is what we are going to discuss today, Website
for Job Seekers. A job seekers looking for a new job, or looking
to switch jobs should have a personal website wherein they
can mention everything about themselves, also keep their CV
or resume to be downloaded in PDF format. The basic idea is
to let the employer know that you are aware of the power of
internet and the other idea is to let the potential employer
know that you are always available.
Follow the tips given below that you should consider when
you are designing website for job seekers or a personal website
for you.
1. Be clear, straight & truthful
While you are in the process of designing website, make sure
that you state everything about youself clearly and in no
uncertain terms. Be straight and come to the point, inform
potential employers of the kind of job profile that you are
looking to work with. And yes, be truthful --- do not lie
a bit about anything because that might land you in a soup
and with no so credible references.
2. Your CV
Allow potential employers to download your CV. Upload your
CV on your website and provide a suitable link to it, so that
potential employers can download your CV in PDF format.
3. Contact
Make a very good contact page, which gives all your contact
details and also mention the place where you are currently
working. Also remember to inform potential employers if they
can contact you at your current job. You can also opt to provide
timings which are convenient to call you. It is a good idea
to inform the potential employers if they can contact your
current employer or not.
4. Achievements
List out all the achievements that you have made at your current
job and all the previous jobs. Ofcourse, it will be a good
idea if you can provide the details of all the achievements.
5. References
Yes, they are very important. Give some solid references and
allow potential employers to contact them through email.
6. Articles
Publish a few articles on your personal website for job seekrs
on your subject matter and your job profile, and allow them
to be downloaded through PDF files. The potential employers
can see your thoughts and guage your maturity for your dream
job in question. For example, if you are seeking employment
for a marketing position, you should include an original article
about the advantages of internet marketing.
7. Favourites
Publish your list of the websites that are your favourites.
Your potential employers can come to know about your preferences
and likes. Make sure that while adding links you do not violate
any copyright.
